UP presents Rs 9.13 lakh crore Budget for 2026-27, outlay up 12.2 pc

Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna on Wednesday presented a Rs 9.13 lakh crore Budget for the financial year 2026-27 in the state Assembly, with a focus on education and agriculture sector to drive economic growth.  Tabling the Budget before the House, Khanna said the total outlay for 2026-26 is Rs 9,12,696.35 crore, marking an increase of about 12.2 per cent over the previous year's outlay. Stressing that the state government is always fully committed to fiscal management and debt control, Khanna said the capital expenditure in this Budget is 19.5 per cent.The budget places strong emphasis on infrastructure, welfare, and growth sectors, with tourism and culture emerging as key focus areas aimed at strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s identity as the spiritual and cultural heartland of India.Highlighting the growing appeal of the state as a tourism destination, the Finance Minister informed that from January to June 2025, nearly 122 crore tourists visited the state, including more than 121 crore domestic tourists and over 33 lakh foreign visitors. This steady rise reflects increasing faith tourism, family travel, and heritage interest across regions.

The government has also provided Rs 1,000 crore for the implementation of the Incentive Policy 2023 aimed at attracting foreign direct investment and investments from Fortune 500 companies. On the Defence Industrial Corridor project, the minister said MoUs have so far been signed for setting up 200 defence industries, entailing a proposed investment of Rs 35,280 crore and generating an estimated 53,263 direct jobs. The state will launch the Uttar Pradesh AI Mission for development in the field of artificial intelligence, for which Rs 225 crore has been proposed.
