Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan again raises Kashmir issue in UNGA

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan once again referred to the Kashmir issue during his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), reiterating his country’s stance on dialogue-based resolution in line with UN resolutions.Speaking at the General Debate of the 80th UNGA session, Erdogan said Ankara was “pleased” with the ceasefire achieved between India and Pakistan after heightened tensions earlier this year. “The issue of Kashmir should be resolved on the basis of resolutions of the UN for the best for our brothers and sisters in Kashmir, through dialogue, we hope,” Erdogan remarked.

The Turkish President underscored that peace and stability in South Asia remained a priority. “In South Asia, we consider the preservation of peace and stability to be of utmost importance. We are pleased with the ceasefire achieved following the tensions last April between Pakistan and India, the tension which had escalated into a conflict,” he said.
Earlier this year, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan, following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The strikes triggered four days of intense clashes, which concluded on May 10 with an understanding to halt military actions.Erdogan also emphasized the importance of cooperation between India and Pakistan in counter-terrorism efforts. His comments continue a pattern seen in recent years, where he has used the UNGA platform to highlight the Kashmir issue, drawing criticism from India in the past.
