In Hong Kong, seven pro-democracy opposition politicians, including four sitting lawmakers, were arrested over charges related to a scuffle that broke out in its legislative council in May this year. Hong Kong Police have confirmed the arrests at a press briefing and said they were arrested on charges of 'contempt' and 'interfering' with members of the city's Legislative Council on 8th May. According to local media reports, authorities made a series of early morning arrests of politicians from the Democratic Party, the Labour Party, and the pan-democratic camp. Police said the seven were charged under a law governing conduct in the chamber, an offense that carries up to 12 months in prison. The seven were later released on bail.The Democratic Party described the arrests as arbitrary. The bloc of pan-democratic lawmakers condemned the actions in a statement, saying the arrests suppress the rights of legislators to dissent. As per media reports, Hong Kong Police declined to comment on a question of arrests of only pro-democracy politicians and not any pro-Beijing politician.

India reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, including the area of so-called 'Gilgit-Baltistan', are an integral part of the country by virtue of the legal, complete and irrevocable accession of Jammu and Kashmir to the Union of India in 1947.In response to media queries on remarks by Pakistani Prime Minister in Gilgit today regarding his government’s decision to accord 'provisional provincial status' to the so-called 'Gilgit-Baltistan', External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, Pakistan has no locus standi on territories, illegally and forcibly occupied by it.He said, such attempts by Pakistan, intended to camouflage its illegal occupation, cannot hide the grave human rights violations, exploitation and denial of freedom for over seven decades to the people residing in these Pakistan occupied territories. The spokesperson said, instead of seeking to alter the status of these Indian territories, Pakistan should immediately vacate all areas under its illegal occupation.

-A prime accused in the Joint Entrance Examination (Mains) scam was arrested on Sunday evening from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport in Guwahati, police said.The Assam Police said in a release that Bhargav Deka, the owner of a city-based coaching institute Global Edu Light, has been apprehended. Deka and a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee - in connection with the examination scam in which a candidate used a proxy and topped in the state.So far, seven persons have been arrested with five, including the candidate, his father, two TCS employees and an invigilator arrested on Wednesday and remanded to five days police custody.Meanwhile, police has approached the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam across the country, and sought data to aid the investigation. The NTA had outsourced the infrastructural and human resources support to TCS for conducting the examinations in Guwahati.
