US President Donald Trump has accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responsible for the 25 per cent tariff that the US recently imposed on Canada. Trump alleged Trudeau is using the tariff issue as an election tactic to secure re-election. "Believe it or not, despite the terrible job he’s done for Canada, I think that Justin Trudeau is using the Tariff problem, which he has largely caused, in order to run again for Prime Minister. So much fun to watch!," Trump posted on TruthSocial.
The Trump administration imposed a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian imports, accusing Justin Trudeau of not doing enough to curb the flow of the synthetic drug fentanyl to the US. The tariff came into effect on Tuesday and could disrupt nearly $2.2 trillion in annual trade. Trudeau responded with 25 per cent retaliatory tariffs on $20.82 billion worth of US imports and warned of further measures. Canada has also approached the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for consultations with the US.
Trump launched a new trade war Tuesday by imposing tariffs against Washington’s three biggest trading partners, drawing immediate retaliation from Mexico, Canada and China and sending financial markets into a tailspin. Trump put 25% taxes, or tariffs, on Mexican and Canadian imports, though he limited the levy to 10% on Canadian energy
