In Tamil Nadu, some unidentified miscreants hurled petrol bombs at a cinema hall screening actor Sivakarthikeyan’s biographical drama, 'Amaran', early on Saturday in Tirunelvelli, police said. No one was hurt, police who are investigating the incident, said. "Two miscreants hurled the petrol bombs inside the compound wall of the cinema complex in Melapalayam. It exploded. Three petrol bombs were thrown at a theatre in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, by two unidentified assailants in the early hours of Saturday. The attack comes amid ongoing protests by several groups against the portrayal of Muslims in a negative light in the film Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan. The film was being screened at Alangar Cinemas, among other venues.CCTV footage captured two men throwing the petrol bombs at the theatre before fleeing the scene.
Amaran, produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, narrates the story of Major Mukund, exploring both his military career and his emotional bond with his wife, Indhu, played by Sai Pallavi. The film, inspired by the book India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, highlights the sacrifices of military families. The music, composed by GV Prakash Kumar, has been praised for its emotional resonance. The film has surpassed the box office collections of Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 and is now the third highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024, following Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) and Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan.
