A 30-year-old man from Mahabubnagar district of Telangana has died in the United States after allegedly being shot by police in Santa Clara, California, following a “scuffle” with his roommate, his family members said on Thursday.The deceased, identified as Mohammed Nizamuddin, had been working as a software professional in the US after completing his MS. His father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, said the family received information from a friend of Nizamuddin that the incident occurred on September 3, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.According to preliminary details, a scuffle broke out between Nizamuddin and his roommate over a petty matter. Police reports indicate that officers responded to a 911 call about a stabbing incident inside the residence. Nizamuddin was reportedly found holding a knife and was shot by responding officers.
Hasnuddin said the family was informed of the tragedy only on Thursday morning. “Today morning I came to know he (Nizamuddin) was shot dead by Santa Clara Police and his mortal remains are in some hospital in Santa Clara, California. I do not know the actual reasons why police shot him dead,” he wrote in a letter addressed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.The grieving father has requested the minister to direct the Embassy of India in Washington DC and the Consulate General of India in San Francisco to extend assistance in repatriating his son’s mortal remains to Mahabubnagar.

Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan, who shared the letter with the media, also appealed to the External Affairs Minister to intervene and provide all necessary support to the family.
