The land of the musical genius Tansen, bathed in the brilliance of ragas. Listeners enraptured by the enchanting flute, the depth of singing, and the divine beats of rhythm The morning session of the 101st Tansen Festival adorned with raga consciousness .The morning session on the fourth day of the festival was infused with spiritual consciousness, aesthetic beauty, and classical dignity. As the sweet melodies of ragas, the mournful call of the flute, rhythmic beats, and luminous notes blended in the serene stillness of the cool morning, the entire atmosphere became suffused with a divine experience. It felt as if Tansen's glorious musical tradition had come alive again, transcending the bounds of time. Commencement of the session with the solemn practice of Dhrupad The morning session began with a Dhrupad performance by students from the Sadhna Music Arts Center, Gwalior. They presented the composition “Ratan Singhasan Ta Par Aasan” set in the tender Raga Asavari, exhibiting exceptional dedication and discipline.
The accompaniment by Avinash Mahajani on Pakhawaj and Basant Harmalkar on the Tabla added grace to the presentation. The coordination was by Ms. Smita Mahajan. Meditative flight of the flute in morning Raga Basant Mukhari The next performance featured the sweet flute recitals of Pandit Chetan Joshi from Noida. He chose the morning Raga Basant Mukhari and enveloped the session in a raga atmosphere. In the alaap and jor, his flute created a calm, meditative mood, while in the jor-jhala, rhythmic energy was distinctly palpable. The presentation of compositions in Rupak Tal and Teentaal showcased the subtle intricacies of raga beautifully. Pandit Hitendra Dixit’s sweet and balanced accompaniment on the Tabla elevated this performance significantly. Colorful hues of Khayal, Tappa, and Thumri in Shuddh Sarang The second artist of the session was Khayal singer Dr. Rishi Mishra from Prayagraj. After a brief alaap in Shuddh Sarang, he presented two traditional compositions: “Mero Man Bandh Liya” in Ektaal and a fast composition “Ab Mori Baat Maan Le” in Teentaal. With the expansion of the raga, the beauty of his voice blossomed, and his melodic expressions mesmerized the audience.

Following this, the Bhairavi Tappa “Dini Bahara Yaar Shanu” and the Mishra Khamaj Thumri “Tori Mori Mori Tori Na Bane” added a delightful charm to the session. The accompaniment was provided by Pandit Sanju Sahay on Tabla, Vivek Jain on Harmonium, and Abid Hussain on Sarangi, with Dr. Niharika Mishra, Mausam Jaiswal, and Satyam Tripathi supporting on Tanpura and chorus. Traditional beats of Tabla in Teentaal The next presentation in the morning session was a solo tabla performance by Sarang Lasurkar from Indore. In the style of the Azrara Gharana, he began with a Peshkar in Teentaal, followed by the Layakari from the Banaras, Delhi, and Azrara Gharanas. The performance concluded with Gats and Rela. Deepak Khasrawat provided support on Harmonium. Melodic culmination of Khayal in Vrindavani Sarang The session concluded with a thoughtful and skillful performance by the renowned Khayal singer Ashish Vijay Ranade from Nashik. He presented three compositions in the Raga Vrindavani Sarang: the Ektaal composition “Mero Man Ab Dheer Dharo” and fast compositions in Teentaal “Tum Rab Tum Sahib” and “Jaun Main Tope Balihari.” His style of raga elaboration was distinctive and appealing. After a slow expansion, gentle meend, and powerful presentation of notes, he concluded the singing with a poignant tarana and bhajan in Ektaal. The accompaniment was by Hitesh Mishra on Tabla, Santosh Agnihotri on Harmonium, and Atharv Thakur, Ms. Sakshi, and Ms. Durva on Tanpura and chorus. The Tansen music festival serves as a powerful medium to bring the rich tradition of Indian classical music to the people.
