Scindia, MP CM secure Rs 5,500 cr investment deals for Gwalior TMZ

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday secured cumulative investment commitments worth Rs 5,500 crore for India's first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior, strengthening the country's push to become a global telecom manufacturing hub.The latest commitments of Rs 2,000 crore were received during the second Investors' Meet held in Mumbai, attended by nearly 18 leading companies from across the telecom ecosystem. The fresh investments are expected to generate around 4,000 jobs, taking the total projected employment from the project to more than 18,000.
The development follows the launch of the Telecom Manufacturing Zone on July 30 through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Madhya Pradesh government. The first investors' roundtable in New Delhi had secured investment commitments of Rs 3,500 crore and an estimated 14,000 jobs.
Addressing the industry event, Scindia invited telecom companies to establish operations in Gwalior, saying the zone would create a complete end-to-end manufacturing ecosystem for the sector.He said India has evolved from a nation driven by telecom services into one preparing to become a global leader in telecom products and manufacturing.Calling the initiative a landmark step towards the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the minister stressed the need for India to move from a services-led economy to a product-led economy under the vision of "Make in India, Make for the World" and "Local for Global."
Scindia outlined a three-pronged strategy to achieve this transformation—enhancing domestic value addition, creating intellectual property within India, and enabling Indian-designed and Indian-manufactured telecom products to reach global markets.Highlighting India's telecom transformation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the past 12 years, he said the country's success in mobile phone manufacturing and digital public infrastructure such as UPI demonstrates its capability to build globally competitive technology ecosystems.

Drawing parallels with India's emergence as one of the world's largest mobile manufacturing hubs, Scindia expressed confidence that the Gwalior Telecom Manufacturing Zone would become another global success story that other countries could emulate.Describing the TMZ as a first-of-its-kind initiative inspired by the Special Economic Zone model but dedicated exclusively to telecommunications, he said the integrated ecosystem would include design, research and development, testing, manufacturing, semiconductors, optical fibre, telecom equipment, component manufacturing and allied industries, supported by plug-and-play testing infrastructure and world-class facilities.The minister highlighted Gwalior's strategic advantages, including its central location, strong industrial base, availability of skilled talent from premier institutions, competitive operating costs and improving connectivity. He noted that the upcoming Agra-Gwalior Greenfield Expressway will reduce travel time between Delhi-NCR and Gwalior to less than three hours, making the city an attractive destination for investors.Scindia invited companies across all telecom verticals to establish operations in the zone, creating a comprehensive manufacturing ecosystem capable of serving both domestic and international markets.
Chief Minister Dr.Mohan Yadav said the Telecom Manufacturing Zone would offer significant investment opportunities while creating large-scale employment for the people of Madhya Pradesh. He added that the initiative would further strengthen the state's position as an emerging manufacturing destination.

The government aims to attract more than Rs 10,000 crore in investments through the Telecom Manufacturing Zone, positioning Gwalior as India's first dedicated telecom manufacturing cluster and a key pillar of the country's electronics and telecom production ecosystem.
