T20 World Cup: Pakistan eliminated as USA qualify for Super 8

The USA team cleared the group stage of T20 World Cup in its very first attempt after its match against Ireland was called off in Lauderhill,Florida on Friday, knocking out former champions Pakistan from the tournament. Thanks to their wins over neighbours Canada and heavyweights Pakistan in their first two outings, the USA joined India in the Super Eight stage of the T20 showpiece after their final group match was washed out.The washout meant heavyweights Pakistan bowed out of the tournament which they won way back in 2009, even as the USA fuelled the game's growth in the land of opportunities by advancing to the next stage.
A wet outfield forced an official to call off the match without a ball bowled and that boosted the United States of America to the Super 8 round. With just two points in their first three matches, Pakistan needed Ireland to beat the USA at any cost on Saturday. India had already secured a next-round qualification with three successive wins and the other four teams were fighting for the remaining one spot from Group A.
The USA secured the second spot with five points in four matches as they finished the first-round campaign with two wins and one defeat. Playing in the tournament for the first time, the USA impressed everyone as they became the only second team after Ireland to progress to the second round of the tournament in their maiden attempt.India are drafted in Group 1 of the Super 8 round where they will face Australia, Afghanistan, and either Bangladesh or the Netherlands. The USA are in Group 2 with confirmed teams South Africa, West Indies and either England or Scotland.
