In Gujarat, the redeveloped Sihor Junction Railway Station in Bhavnagar district now is an upgraded stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually inaugurated such 103 stations across the country. Union Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution, Nimuben Bambhania attended the function at Sihor junction. The Sihor Junction redevelopment, completed at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore, is among 18 stations in Gujarat transformed under the ABSS initiative. The upgrades begin right at the entry point: a revamped façade with a grand entrance porch that improves visibility, enhances aesthetics, and offers a shaded pick-up and drop-off zone for smoother movement. Inside, the booking hall and waiting area have been completely reoriented into spacious, comfortable zones with optimized queuing systems to minimize passenger wait times.Other stations in the state, including Mahuva (Rs 8.5 crore) and Palitana (Rs 4.12 crore), have also been upgraded to enhance passenger amenities and infrastructure ,stated official release.
Speaking at the event, Minister Bambhania emphasized, “Indian Railways is the engine of the country's development journey.” She highlighted that the modernization efforts under the ABSS not only improve public amenities but also symbolize the nation's stride towards modernity and self-reliance. District Panchayat President Raiyaben Miyani, Bhavnagar Mayor Bharatbhai Barad, MLA Mahant Shambhunathji Tundiya, and other local leaders and officials also attended the function. During the ceremony, a retired Indian Army soldier was honored by dignitaries, reflecting the community's respect for its servicemen. Attendees also virtually participated in the national event led by Prime Minister Modi.
The revamped Sihor Junction now features grand entrances, attractive facades, high-mast lighting, modern waiting halls, ticket counters, Divyang-friendly toilets, and accessible ramps. Platforms have been equipped with shelters, coach indicators, and digital display boards. Additionally, the station showcases elements of Gujarat’s folk art, culture, and traditions, offering travelers a culturally enriched experience.

With roots tracing back to the British colonial era, Sihor Junction Railway Station in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district has long served as a critical hub in the regional railway network. Originally established to enhance trade and connectivity across Gujarat, the station has consistently supported local commerce and mobility—especially connecting the town of Sihor to nearby Bhavnagar and beyond. Classified as an NSG-5 station under the Western Railway zone, Sihor Junction handles a daily footfall of over 1,150 passengers.By blending functionality with visual appeal, Sihor Junction’s modernization is setting new standards for mid-size railway stations. The station’s new avatar not only supports regional connectivity but also aligns with India’s vision of creating inclusive, efficient, and future-ready transport infrastructure.
