The domestic share market indices ended higher on Thursday,amid profit booking at higher levels on the Sensex expiry day, while a record low rupee also weighed on investor sentiment.At close, the Sensex rose 789.74 points or 1.06 percent to 75,398.72, while the Nifty gained 277 points or 1.18 percent to settle at 23,689.60.
Bharti Airtel Ltd, Eternal Ltd.,Adani Enterprises, Cipla were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech and TCS.On the sectoral front, IT, auto, realty and oil & gas stocks were the major laggards. The Nifty Smallcap100 index declined 0.6 percent, while the Nifty Midcap100 index traded marginally higher.
Rupee Close:
On 14 May'26,the Indian rupee weakened and fell to a record low of 95.73 down 7 paise against the US dollar on Thursday, amid a strong dollar and worries over inflation amid elevated energy prices.Forex traders said the rupee is expected to trade with a negative bias amid inflation concerns and the strength of the US dollar in the overseas market.
The West Asia crisis and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz have disrupted crude petroleum imports into India. Also, the sharp rise in crude prices has made fuel imports costlier.
