The domestic share market closed marginally lower on Tuesday amid cautious market sentiment. At close, the Sensex was down 29.47 points or 0.04 percent at 75,967.39, and the Nifty was down 14.20 points or 0.06 percent at 22,945.30. About 993 shares advanced, 2804 shares declined, and 101 shares unchanged.
Tech Mahindra, Wipro, ONGC, Power Grid and NTPC were the top gainers on the Nifty while losers included Trent, IndusInd Bank, M&M, UltraTech Cement, Bharat Electronics. On the sectoral front, Pharma, FMCG, Media, PSU Bank, Consumer Durables fell between 0.5-1 percent, while IT, Power, Oil & Gas index up 0.5% each, according to information. BSE Midcap index was down 0.2 percent and smallcap index shed 1.7 percent.
Rupee Close:
On 18 Feb'25,the Indian rupee depreciated 7 paise to 86.94 against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday weighed down by sustained foreign fund outflows and a negative trend in domestic equities. Forex traders reportedly stated there is a negative bias for the USD/INR pair as foreign investors continue to sell domestic equities and the RBI support is tapering off slowly.
