Rajnath clears transfer of DRDO missile tech to Indian defence industry

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the transfer of technology (ToT) for all conventional missile systems developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to Indian defence industries for indigenous production, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s defence manufacturing capabilities. The initiative is being seen as a significant step towards achieving Aatmanirbharta in defence, as it will enable eligible domestic companies to manufacture DRDO-developed missile systems, within the country, subject to applicable qualifications, certifications and regulatory requirements.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the move would facilitate the transition of missile systems from development to industrial-scale production and expand the participation of Indian industry in the defence ecosystem. The technology transfer is also expected to strengthen the domestic defence industrial base by creating greater opportunities for Indian MSMEs and other technology partners to participate in missile production and related supply chains.
According to the ministry, the initiative will help enhance India’s operational capabilities, reduce dependence on imports and increase domestic value addition in the defence sector. The move is part of DRDO’s continuing efforts to leverage the capabilities of Indian industry for the development, absorption and manufacture of advanced defence technologies.
