Anupama Solanki: Haven't indulged in fireworks for the past decade

Diwali is a festival that we all look forward to every year. It’s a celebration that brings people together. People plan in advance how to spend this occasion. Nath-Krishna Aur Gauri Ki Kahani actor Anupama Solanki shares her plan for the festival this year.“I'm brimming with excitement for this year's Diwali. It has been a fantastic year for me, but amid my busy schedule, we have already started decoration and cleaning. Just like the past few years, I won't be heading home for Diwali. Work commitments have kept me away from my hometown, and while my parents insist that I visit, I find it challenging to make the trip for just one day. Therefore, I've decided to celebrate Diwali at my Mumbai home,” she says.
As a responsible young adult I haven't indulged in fireworks for the past ten years, as I consider it my responsibility to protect our mother Earth, Anupama is environmentally conscious. “While the idea of bursting fireworks is tempting, I cannot ignore the potential harm they cause to insects, birds, animals, and the elderly.,” she adds. The preparations for Diwali have already begun at her home. She has purchased new lights for decoration, and this year, she plans to buy some western clothes, a change from her traditional attire.“I'm planning to indulge a little less in sweets this year. I have a weakness for kaju katli, and I usually can't resist them. However, the best Diwali sweet for me has always been soan papdi, which I fondly refer to as ‘Buddhe baba ke baal’,” she laughs softly.
For Dhanteras, Anupama has bought golden spoons, not the genuine gold ones, but gold-plated spoons. “I have a penchant for collecting antique and unique pieces, and this purchase will certainly add to my collection,” she adds. Revealing about her Diwali attire, she says, “Considering my role in the current Dangal TV show ‘Nath Krishna Aur Gauri ki kahani’, where I continuously wear Indian Banarasi sarees and have a typical Indian look, I've decided to break away from tradition this year. I will opt for an Indo-Western or Western outfit for the festivities.”
Festive time is fun, but hectic too. “The festival season can indeed be hectic, especially when you're doing a TV show and managing everything in your apartment on your own. I haven't hired any household help because of my early morning shoots and late-night returns. It's a demanding routine, but it's also a valuable lesson in self-reliance. Living outside of India, I've come to understand that people at all levels of an organization, whether a CEO or a peon, manage their office work and household chores themselves. This perspective has given me the energy and determination to handle my busy lifestyle. This Diwali in 2023 is shaping up to be a unique and exciting celebration, marked by my commitment to environmental responsibility, a change in my attire, and the collection of antique pieces. It's a personal and meaningful way to embrace the spirit of Diwali,” she adds.
Celebs speak on the significance of Dhanteras and what they plan to buy this year

Reflecting on the sacred occasion, stars share insights into the importance of Dhanteras and discuss their plans for this year, including what they intend to purchase and the reasons behind their choices. Here's a glimpse into what they had to say:
Supriya Khan
The word is derived from 'Dhan' meaning wealth and 'Teras' which means thirteen, it is an important Festival For Finance and Business. As per Hindu mythology, it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the sea on the day of Dhanteras. People also believe that Goddess Laxmi visits the homes of devotees on the day of Dhanteras and blesses them to bring more money and wealth into their lives. Buying gold is considered to be lucky on Dhanteras so every year I will be wearing a beautiful Red salwar kameez and buy gold coins from Tanishq, and clay utensils.
Aradhana Sharma
Just like other festivals, Dhanteras also holds an importance in our lives. It is said that goddess Lakshmi blesses us to bring more money, and wealth into our lives. On this pious occasion I love to invest in something precious that will help me in the long run. We usually buy silver or gold coins for the purpose of puja. Also, as per our Hindu culture, buying gold or silver is considered good.
Simple Kaul
The significance of Dhanteras is primarily associated with the worship of wealth and prosperity. Well, on this day, we clean and decorate our home, and buy a gold coin which is then kept in the temple of our home. I have seen people decorating their houses with diyas to ward off evil forces and invite blessings into their homes.
Rinku Ghosh
Dhanteras is all about good vibes and happiness all around. It is celebrated to mark the presence of the goddess Lakshmi in our life. I love every bit of all the festivals and occasions in culture. For Dhanteras, I sometimes buy a small silver coin, nothing in particular.
Mehul Vyas
Dhanteras, also known as Dhanatrayodashi or Dhanvantari Trayodashi, is a significant Hindu festival celebrated on the 13th day of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Kartik. It holds several significance. Dhanteras is primarily associated with the worship of the goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu deity of wealth and prosperity. It is believed that buying new utensils, jewellery, or other items on this day brings good fortune and prosperity to the household. We plan to buy gold on dhanteras. We hope it brings glitter and brightness to our life.
Nikhil Nanda
The day is considered pious and has a huge significance to our culture. I shall buy something in silver and gold as it’s to welcome Maa Lakshmi to our homes.
Ranaksh Rana
Dhanteras for me is the beginning of Diwali, the celebration of good over evil. So it's the beginning of all things positive. But it's not just external good over evil. Did you know that Dhanteras is also observed as Dhanvantari Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the God of Ayurveda? To me, it means investing in good health and a positive lifestyle. I'd probably invest in a good blender for a nutritious smoothie and encourage my loved ones to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Ismail Umar Khan
Dhanteras play a very important role in our Hindu culture. I love to celebrate it with my family. This Dhanteras I wish I could buy luck in my favour & accumulate wealth.
Neel Samarthh: Diwali gives me a reason to shop till I drop

Actor Neel Samarthh, who has been seen in shows such as Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant, Kundali Bhagya and Waaris, says that he loves shopping on Diwali. He adds that there are great sales and he makes sure to buy all that he wants.“Shopping is my favourite thing. I'm a spent thrift. So even if I go to buy a pair of clothes, I buy more. And Diwali gives me a great reason to shop till I drop because there are a lot of sales, a lot of things happening in the market. There is new stock. So, I shop a lot. And with the ethnic, traditional wear, I also buy the regular clothes, the formals, the casuals and a lot of things, actually,” he says.
Talking about what the festival means to him, he says, “Diwali is a special and joyous celebration that I've always looked forward to with enthusiasm and happiness. It holds a significant spiritual meaning as it marks the return of Lord Ramji to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. On a personal level, Diwali brings back fond memories from my school days when we would take a break from studies. My dad used to buy us new clothes, firecrackers, and lots of delicious sweets, which made me very happy. However, there is one aspect of Diwali that I don't like, and that's the use of loud firecrackers which can harm and distress animals. What bothers me the most is that animals can't express their pain and suffering like humans can. They endure accidents, fear, and discomfort due to the loud noise from firecrackers during both Diwali and other festive occasions. I also dislike the environmental pollution caused by the excessive use of firecrackers. Despite my love for Diwali, I wish people would be more mature and considerate when it comes to the well-being of animals. It's important for us to be mindful of the pain we unintentionally cause to these voiceless creatures during this otherwise joyous festival.”
Diwali creates lots of noise and air pollution, he says, adding, “In India, it's a sad reality that many people can be insensitive and uninformed. They tend to prioritise their own desires and often indulge in showing off during festivals like Diwali. They light loud and extravagant firecrackers without considering the harmful consequences for the environment. This behaviour is certainly disheartening.”
He says, “I hope, over time, people will become more aware of the environmental impact of their actions, particularly in terms of pollution there is a possibility that people will eventually change their behaviour and show greater consideration for nature and the well-being of all living creatures.”
Meanwhile, eating is another thing that he loves to do on Diwali. “I've always had a sweet tooth, and I absolutely love eating sweets during Diwali. My top favourite is Kaju Katli. Another sweet I really enjoy is the one with a layer of Malai, and Rasgulla. I also like these Mava sweets. During Diwali, I completely forget about my diet and indulge in these delicious treats without any second thoughts.”Festive time is fun, but hectic too, he says, adding, “Festive times are indeed a lot of fun, but they can be quite hectic too, especially as we grow older. In our childhood, we didn't have many responsibilities, and we could simply enjoy the festivities, the rituals, and the festivities. However, now that we've all grown up, there are more responsibilities to manage. I'm quite spiritual, as I've mentioned before, and I engage in various pujas and rituals during Diwali, like the Lakshmi puja, Ramji ki puja, and Hanumanji puja. There's a lot to do, and it's about finding a balance between the pre-Diwali preparations, cleaning, decorating the house, and the actual puja. I do manage to strike a balance, but it can be challenging when I'm working on a shoot. Most of the time, I prefer to celebrate Diwali with my family, but I'm not entirely sure if I'll be able to do that this year due to my busy schedule.”
I am not answerable to anybody but Bigg Boss : Rinku Dhawan

It’s been more than a month since Big Boss 17 started and the contestants are definitely showing their potential. And actress Rinku Dhawan is surely standing out amongst the crowd. Rinku has been one contestants who has a no nonsense attitude to all her fellow in house contestants. As we all know, Mannara Chopra has been nominated for elimination by Rinku, so for obvious reasons, Mannara is upset with her. And while Jigna Vora and Munawar Faruqui were talking, Mannara interfered which also triggered Rinku. Rinku says,” Just because you got the jhatka of nomination you are showing your true colours. Whatever you were doing till date was all FAKE! I never take the tag of representing any particular house (‘Dil, Dimag and Dum’) I will nominate whoever I want, and I am not answerable to anybody but Bigg Boss.”
Rinku also showed her friendship and loyalty towards Jigna Vora. As she adds,”If anything comes on her, I will take her side, I don’t care for anyone in the house but for Jigna. I can go to any lengths to protect her. To this, Jigna lovingly told Rinku ‘Shant Gadadhari Bheem Shant’.”We can certainly see the friendship between Rinku & Jigna is going to be stronger in the coming days in BB17. In a career span of more than 30 years, we have seen Dhawan in shows like ‘Pehchaan’, ‘Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat’, ‘Rakt Sambandh’, ‘Gupta Brothers’, ‘Jaat Ki Jugni’, ‘Yeh Vaada Raha’.
Charrul Malik: Diwali is a festival that I look forward to every year

Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai actress Charrul Malik says that Diwali is one of her favourite festivals. She adds that she focuses on being with her family on this day.“Diwali is a festival that I look forward to every year. Among all the festivals, Diwali is my favourite because it's all about lights, brightness, positivity, and spreading positive vibes. This Diwali, I don't have any big plans; I'll be staying at home as usual. My father has come from the US, so I plan to spend quality time with him and my entire family. We will decorate our home with lots of diyas, lights, and do some shopping. Nowadays, celebrating a festival with family itself feels like a grand celebration. So, that's my Diwali plan for this year,” she says.
She adds, “Many people talk about celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali, but it's true that some still choose to burst firecrackers. It's puzzling why they waste their time, energy, money, and contribute to pollution, both noise and air pollution. I'm especially concerned about the impact on pet dogs and stray dogs who have a tough time during the fireworks. It's indeed a nightmare for them. I don't understand why people do this when they could use their resources to donate to those in need or help the less fortunate. Even if nothing else, they could save that money, enjoy good food, and invest in healthier things. I can't relate to such choices either.”
Talking about her Diwali shopping, she says, “I love to shop for shoes and clothes, especially during sales with big discounts, like 50% or 60% off. I usually stick to the stores that have these discount signs, and I don't bother checking out other shops. For the rest of my Diwali shopping, we often invest in some new furniture or take care of pending purchases that we've been meaning to make. People tend to make such purchases during Diwali because it's an opportunity to take advantage of the occasion and get things we've been planning to buy.” Good and yummy food is a must on Diwali, says Charrul, adding, “I have a sweet tooth, and I absolutely love indulging in treats like gulab jamun, kaju katli, besan ka ladoo, and milk cake during festivals. However, I do enjoy them in moderation. I believe in savouring these sweets during festivals because life is too short to miss out on them completely. It's all about finding a balance and not depriving yourself of the pleasures of festive treats.”
Charrul is still to select her Diwali outfit. “To be honest, I haven't thought much about my Diwali outfit. If a designer outfit comes my way, I'll wear it and give them a shoutout by tagging them. I've noticed several brands following me, and a few of them have been sending ethnic wear, so I'll decide based on what I receive. But one thing's for sure, I'll wear something stylish, perhaps with a touch of bling, something new, and, most importantly, something that suits me well”
