Priority on saving lives: CM reviews Uttarakhand flash flood situation

In Uttarakhand, rescue teams were combing the hills of Uttarkashi for survivors on Tuesday after a string of suspected cloudbursts triggered flash floods that swept through a cluster of villages along the banks of the Kheer Ganga river, killing at least four, with dozens still missing. Rescue teams from the police, Army, NDRF, and SDRF were deployed. Teams rescued 70 people till midnight. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami cut short his Andhra Pradesh visit and returned to Dehradun to review the situation at the State Emergency Operation Centre. He said 130 people stranded in affected areas had been shifted to safer locations, and instructions were issued for immediate food, shelter and medical aid. Additional Army helicopters have been requested to speed up rescue efforts. Schools and educational institutions remain closed in multiple districts.

The NDRF and ITBP teams are also on the ground, conducting search-and-rescue operations amid extremely challenging terrain and continuous rainfall. The situation in Harshil remains tense as multiple families have been reported stranded or missing due to the flash floods and debris flow. With communication lines snapped in some areas and roads washed away, air support is expected to play a crucial role once the weather improves.Reports indicated that the debris had blocked the Bhagirathi river. Meanwhil, the Badrinath National Highway in Karnaprayag has been blocked due to debris falling from a hillside.
