Prez Murmu urges Teachers to embrace technology for better learning

President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday conferred the National Teachers Awards 2026 on 48 school teachers at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.Congratulating the awardees, Murmu urged teachers to continually update their knowledge, embrace technology and adopt innovative teaching methods to nurture talent and guide students towards excellence.
In her Teachers’ Day message, the President said teachers play a vital role in nurturing talent and strengthening the character of students through their guidance and mentorship. She emphasised that teachers have a responsibility to help students become good human beings while recognising and encouraging their individual potential.
The President also stressed the importance of promoting independent thinking and developing a spirit of enquiry among students. She said dedicated and caring teachers can inspire students and motivate them to strive for excellence.
The National Teachers Awards are organised annually by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education to recognise teachers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to school education.According to agency reports,this year, 48 teachers were selected through a three-stage selection process at the district, state and national levels. The awardees represent 27 states, seven Union Territories and six organisations of the Central Government.Of the 48 awardees, 26 are male and 22 are female. They represent diverse regions and administrative areas and have been recognised for their contribution to improving the quality of school education and enriching the lives of their students.

Short documentaries showcasing the work, achievements and contributions of the awardees were also presented during the ceremony, highlighting their innovative practices and impact on students.The awardees were selected through a rigorous, transparent and online process. Eligible teachers were invited to submit self-nominations through the Ministry of Education’s portal between June 15 and July 20.
The National Teachers Awards seek to acknowledge educators whose dedication, hard work and commitment have contributed significantly to school education and student development.
In her message, Murmu also paid tribute to former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is observed as Teachers’ Day. Describing him as a great author, philosopher and an extraordinary teacher, she said the occasion was an opportunity to remember his contribution and legacy.The President expressed gratitude to teachers across the country for their service and said she hoped they would continue to nurture enlightened generations capable of taking the nation to greater heights.

Separately, Himachal Pradesh honoured 26 teachers with the State Teacher Award for their contributions to education and student development. The group included 21 school teachers and five college teachers, with 15 teachers from the School Education Department selected under the General Award in the Non-Tribal/Hard Area category.In Uttar Pradesh, 81 teachers were also selected for the State Teacher Award and Chief Minister’s Teacher Award in recognition of their contributions to the education sector. The awards were presented at the Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium in Gorakhpur.The Uttar Pradesh awardees included 61 teachers from the Basic Education Department and 20 from the Secondary Education Department.
