Union Minister Pralhad Joshi will be the new Education Minister following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Joshi has been assigned the charge of the Ministry of Education, in addition to his existing portfolios. Joshi is currently serving as the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy. President Droupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect.
Speaking after taking charge, Joshi said the Prime Minister had placed his trust in him by entrusting him with a “significant responsibility”. He thanked PM Narendra Modi for the opportunity and said he would work sincerely under his guidance to meet expectations in the Education Ministry. The Lok Sabha MP from Karnataka’s Dharwad constituency, Joshi also credited Pradhan with implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) and said several important initiatives had been undertaken in the education sector in recent years.
