Indore, the country’s cleanest city,is far ahead in the implementation of the prestigious Prime Minister Awas Yojana(PMAY). The city was one of six chosen by the Centre for its ambitious ‘LightHouse’ project under the Global Housing Technology Challenge-India (GHTC-India) initiative.

In Indore, 1,024 houses will be built in the ‘prefabricated sandwich panel system, a technique in which panels made of cement or calcium silicate are used instead of brick-andmortar walls. This is already in use in Australia, China and the Gulf countries. Indore’s LightHouse’ project is worth Rs 128 crore.

Each housing complex has electricity,drinking water,sewege system,Waste disposable management, parking spacemand lift fcilities.

Ubder the PMAY 14,000 units are being constructed. 90 percent units are ready and have been allotted to eligible persons. Presently, 832 families are residing at the Bhuritekri project.

And now they the proud owner of teir flats. According to Ms Santoshi Gupta, JE, Indore Nagar Nigam, each benefiary has been given the house in Rs 2 lakh. Banks provided them loans on easy instalments, Owners were charged Rs 20,000 only. as registration fee.

Earlier these families were living in nearby slums. They were put in a transit camp in 2017. And after completion of flates they were given houses through a lottery system.
