PM Modi takes stock of flood situation in Punjab and Himachal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a Rs1,500 crore aid package for Himachal Pradesh, aimed at supporting relief and rehabilitation efforts after floods, cloudbursts, and landslides hit the state. PM Modi conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas before chairing a review meeting in Kangra, where he directed officials to adopt a multi-dimensional approach to rehabilitation. He said the Centre would focus on rebuilding homes through the PM Awas Yojana, restoring highways, repairing schools, and supporting farmers and livestock owners.

The PM met families affected by the calamity and assured them of the Centre’s full support. “The Union Government will work closely with the State Government in this difficult time and extend all possible assistance,” he said. The Prime Minister also lauded the efforts of NDRF, SDRF, the Army, state authorities and volunteers in providing immediate relief. Inter-ministerial central teams have already been dispatched to assess the extent of damage, with further support to be considered based on their findings. “The Central Government is committed to helping Himachal Pradesh get back on its feet,” PM Modi said.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu old the PM that if disaster-affected families have to be saved, then forest laws need to be amended.

The Prime Minister also declared an ex-gratia of Rs2 lakh each to the families of those killed and ₹50,000 for the injured. Additionally, the government will provide an advance release of the second instalment of the SDRF and PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi funds.

Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Gurdaspur in Punjab to take stock of the situation of the flood ravaged state. Punjab Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, Minister Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal and Animal Husbandry Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khuddian welcomed him along with some BJP leaders and officials of the state government  After reviewing the situation,Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces financial assistance of Rs 1,600 crore for flood-hit Punjab.
