Launched in October 2021, the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP) adopts a ‘whole-of-government’ approach and promotes ‘cooperative federalism’ to accelerate infrastructure creation and bridge critical connectivity gaps. The initiative focuses on improving multimodal logistics efficiency and facilitating the seamless movement of people, goods, and services nationwide.
According to official data, substantial progress has been made since its launch. The development of a comprehensive geospatial platform, integration of multiple georeferenced datasets, and creation of planning tools and software have enabled better project coordination and monitoring. Capacity-building efforts have also been a major focus, ensuring that infrastructure planning benefits from advanced digital tools and trained personnel. So far, 293 infrastructure projects worth ₹13.59 lakh crore have been evaluated through the Network Planning Group (NPG) mechanism. A total of 57 central ministries and departments, including eight infrastructure, 22 social, and 27 economic ministries, have been onboarded onto the PM GatiShakti platform. Additionally, 36 states and union territories are now part of the initiative. The platform currently hosts around 1,700 data layers, including 969 contributed by states and UTs and 731 from central ministries and departments. In the current financial year (2025–26), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for 50 ministries and departments have been finalised or revised to enhance operational efficiency.
A Single Sign-On User Management System has been implemented using NIC JanParichay, providing streamlined access for states and UTs. During this period, 28 major infrastructure projects from central ministries were reviewed under the NPG mechanism. In terms of capacity building, over 25,000 officers have been trained cumulatively through 25 workshops and training sessions, ensuring a skilled workforce capable of utilising the PM GatiShakti platform effectively.Celebrating the four-year milestone, Goyal reiterated that PM GatiShakti continues to be a driving force in India’s infrastructure revolution fostering faster project delivery, better planning, and improved logistics efficiency — as the country accelerates toward its vision of a developed and globally competitive economy.
