The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced two major initiatives aimed at strengthening the Indian film industry, enhancing cinema infrastructure and improving the global competitiveness of Indian cinema.The decisions were taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Monday. The meeting focused on measures to promote film production, improve distribution networks and encourage the use of emerging technologies across the cinema ecosystem.

According to agency reports, the Ministry said the initiatives are designed to create a more supportive environment for filmmakers, attract investment and expand cinema infrastructure, especially in smaller towns and rural areas.As part of the measures, a high-level Study Group has been constituted under the chairmanship of Prasar Bharati Chairman Prasoon Joshi. The group will examine the opportunities and challenges facing the Indian film sector and recommend steps to strengthen the industry.The Study Group will also suggest measures to enhance the global presence of Indian films and make the sector more competitive internationally.
In another key decision, the Ministry has prepared Model State Cinema Regulations and shared them with all state governments for adoption. The proposed framework aims to establish a modern regulatory environment and support the growth of cinema infrastructure across the country.The Ministry said the adoption of these regulations by states will help create a strong, efficient and globally competitive Indian film industry while supporting the expansion of cinema-related activities nationwide.
