Over 97 lakh names dropped, TN draft roll released after SIR

In Tamil Nadu, over 97 lakh voters have been deleted from the draft roll released on Friday after the Special Intensive Revision. The names have been deleted over several reasons such as migration, death, duplication, among others. The Election Commission of India on Friday. The removals included 26,94,672 voters listed as deceased, 66,44,881 voters reported as shifted, and 3,39,278 voters found to be enrolled at multiple places, according to the data. After the SIR exercise, Tamil Nadu has 5.43 crore voters, including 2.66 crore men, 2.77 crore women and 7,191 transgender voters, down from 6.41 crore voters as on October 27, 2025.It also said that enumeration forms have been collected from 5.43 crore voters, which makes for 84.81 per cent of the total voters in the state.

In Chennai, the draft SIR list showed 14.25 lakh voters removed, with the electorate declining from 40.04 lakh to 25.79 lakh. In Coimbatore, 6.50 lakh voters were dropped from the draft electoral list. Dindigul district saw 2.34 lakh deletions, with the total electorate falling from 19.35 lakh earlier to 16.09 lakh. In Karur, 79,690 voters were removed, reducing the count from 8.79 lakh to 8.18 lakh. Kanchipuram district recorded 2.74 lakh deletions. Tamil Nadu Chief Election Officer Archana Patnaik, addressing the media, said that Sholinganallur and Pallavaram constituencies recorded the highest number of voter deletions in the draft rolls.
