Only 25 states & UTs reduced VAT on petrol and diesel

Centre has said that 25 States and UTs have so far undertaken commensurate reduction of VAT on Petrol and diesel to give relief to the consumers. According to the ministry of petroleum this follows the decision of the Centre to significantly reduce Central Excise Duty on Petrol and Diesel by five rupees and ten rupees on 3rd of this month. While doing so, the States were also urged to commensurately reduce VAT on Petrol and diesel to give relief to consumers.
The States and UTs which have not undertaken any reduction in VAT in Petrol and Diesel are, Maharashtra, NCT of Delhi, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan. In Lakshadweep, UT Government procures Kerala paid VAT Petrol and Diesel. Currently, there is Nil tax on Petrol and Diesel in the UT.  Following the cut in VAT, the price of Petrol has come down most in Punjab by 16 rupees 2 paise per litre, followed by 13 rupees 43 paise in UT of Ladakh and 13 rupees 35 paise in Karnataka. Petrol is cheapest in Andaman & Nicobar at 82 rupees 96 paise per litre, while it is 92 rupees 2 paise per litre in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. Petrol is priced at 117 rupees 45 paise per litre in Jaipur, Rajasthan, while it is 115 rupees 85 paise in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
In case of Diesel, the price has come down most in UT of Ladakh by 19 rupees 61 paise per litre, followed by 19 rupees 49 paise in Karnataka and 19 rupees 8 paise in Puducherry. Diesel is cheapest in Andaman and Nicobar at 77 rupees 13 paise per litre, while it is 79 rupees 55 paise per litre in Aizwal, Mizoram. Diesel is priced at 108 rupees 39 paise per litre in Jaipur, Rajasthan, while it is 107 rupees 48 paise in Vizag, Andhra Pradesh.
