In Odisha, a 15-year-old girl was set on fire by unidentified persons in Puri district on Saturday, officials said.The girl was rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in a critical condition, and she has suffered 70 per cent burn injuries, but she is able to speak, they said. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who is in charge of the Women and Child Development Department, said the government will bear the expenses of the girl's treatment and that the police have been asked to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.According to officials, the victim sustained severe burn injuries on her hands, legs, and torso.
As per information, locals rushed to the spot when they saw flames and heard the girl screaming. She was rushed to the Community Health Center in Pipili but was later referred to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar due to the severity of her injuries. The incident took place around 8:30 am when the victim, a Class 12 student, was on her way to her friend's house to give her books.
Congress has criticised the Mohan Charan Majhi-led Odisha government over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The grand old party said that such incidents are regularly happening in the state, adding that Majhi's government has failed to take action against such elements.
