The Odisha government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UAE-based International Holding Company (IHC) and the Adani Group to explore 14 projects with a potential investment of Rs 2.10 lakh crore and the capacity to generate around 8.68 lakh jobs, according to agency reports.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who is on three day official visit to UAE from September 8 to 12 to attract investment and strengthen trade and business ties, held a series of meetings with investors and business groups in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday..The proposed projects span sectors including metal downstream industries, slurry pipelines, critical minerals and rare earths, chemicals and petrochemical derivatives, renewable energy equipment, healthcare, industrial infrastructure, tourism, skill development and sports infrastructure.
The meeting also reviewed progress on an integrated aluminium project in Odisha. The state has proposed land in Rayagada district for an alumina refinery and in Sundargarh district for an aluminium smelter.
Majhi also met members of the Indian Business and Professional Group (IBPG) in the UAE, where a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed to boost trade and investment between Odisha and the UAE. Discussions focused on exports of turmeric, ginger and seafood, along with opportunities for contract manufacturing for UAE companies.The Chief Minister also invited UAE-based petrochemicals company Borouge to explore a large chemicals downstream complex in Odisha, potentially linked to Indian Oil Corporation’s planned naphtha cracker at Paradip.He further held discussions with UAE-based investment institutions on participation in Odisha’s infrastructure projects through public-private partnerships, including port and other infrastructure projects.
