Former US President Bill Clinton testified to Congress that he had "no idea" about the crimes committed by the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was indicted for sex-related offences. Clinton finished his closed-door deposition in the state of New York on Friday after about six hours of questioning from lawmakers about his ties to Epstein. He was called to testify by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which is led by Republicans.He said his brief acquaintance with Epstein ended years before his crimes came to light .Later, Clinton releases statement after testifying in front of House Oversight Committee over connections to Jeffrey Epstein. "I did it for two reasons. First - I love my country, including our Constitution, and America was built on the idea that no person is above the law, even president, especially presidents and that we should all live under the same set of rules," he said.

US media outlets report that this marks the first time that a former president has been compelled to testify before Congress. Clinton's wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, spoke to the panel on Thursday. Democrats are calling on President Donald Trump to give testimony over the issue.
