Nitish Kumar sworn-in as Chief Minister of Bihar for 7th term

Nitish Kumar was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Bihar for the seventh term on Monday afternoon. Bihar Governor Phagu Chauhan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Kumar at Raj Bhavan. BJP leaders Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi took oath as the Deputy Chief Ministers of Bihar. This was a small-scale gathering owing to Covid-19 restrictions.

Santosh Kumar Suman, son of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi, Mukesh Sahni of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), JD(U)’s Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Vijendra Prasad Yadav, Ashok Choudhary and Mewa Lal Choudhary were also sworn in. The swearing-in of Vijay Kumar Choudhary as a cabinet minister indicates that the Speaker post is going to BJP as Choudhary was the Speaker in the last term. Nitish Kumar was unanimously elected leader of the NDA at a meeting of its newly elected MLAs in Patna on Sunday. The NDA secured absolute majority by winning 125 seats in the recently held Bihar Assembly elections.

Nitish Kumar's oath-taking ceremony was attended by top BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda. The opposition RJD and Congress boycotted the ceremony, claiming the mandate in the elections was against the NDA and it had been changed by the fraud.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nitish Kumar on taking oath as Bihar chief minister and said NDA family will work together for state’s progress.
