India will have the world's first 100 percent Ethanol-fueled car.Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari launched the world's first BS-VI (Stage-II), electrified flex-fuel vehicle in New Delhi on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion,Gadkari said that to become India a self-reliant country, there is a need to bring oil import to zero. The Minister added that at present India's oil import bill stood at 16 lakh crore rupees. Gadkari noted that India has to reduce its dependence on oil imports in order to become self-reliant. Gadkari said that 40 percent of pollution is coming from the transport sector alone which is a major concern for the country.The Minister said that the country needs to undertake more sustainability measures in order to curb pollution. Gadkari said that with the ethanol blending, the India's Agricultural growth will rise from 12 percent to 20 percent and will provide lots of job opportunities.
Minister of Petroleum and Natural Hardeep Singh Puri said that with the implementation of 20 percent ethanol blending, India will save 35 thousand crore rupees annually as import bill. He added that India has achieved 10 percent of ethanol blending five months advance of the origin target of 2022. Puri said that India has set a new target of ethonal blending of 20 percent by 2026 , which was targeted for 2030.He said that the government has advanced its target to achieve 20 percent ethanol blending in petrol from 2030 to 2025.
Speaking in the event Union Minister Mahindra Nath Pandey said with the ethonal blending process the farmers have earned 82, 000 crores rupees till date. He said that with the ethonal blending is not only helping to reduce India's import bill but helping India to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat. The flex fuel is a technology that allows an engine to utilise a higher percentage of ethonal blended in Petrol or gasoline more than 20 percent. The aim is to launch to reduce carbon footprint, improve sustainable mobility and decrease the country's dependency on traditional fuel sources.
The UPA government had started the biofuel blending process but only achieved 1.53 percent. He added that since 2014 the government has increased the ethanol blending in petrol from 1.53 percent to 10.17 percent in July 2022. This innovative vehicle is based on the Innova Hycross and is
