The domestic share market indices ended on a lower note on Wednesday, as elevated crude oil prices and geopolitical crisis weighed on investor sentiment.At close, the Sensex was down 325.78 points or 0.42 percent at 76,909.68, and the Nifty was down 76.60 points or 0.32 percent at 24,078.30.
HCL Technologies, JSW Steel, Sun Pharma, Eternal and Wipro were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Power Grid Corporation, Max Healthcare, Coal India, ITC, Bajaj Finance.On the sectoral front,except IT index (up 0.7%) , all other sectoral indices ended in the red with Defence index shed nearly 1.5% and Energy index down 1.2%.The broader market also remained under pressure, with mid-cap index falling 0.2% and small-cap index down 0.5%.
Rupee Close:
On 19 Aug'26,the Indian rupee fell 2 paise to close at 95.76 (provisional) against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday as a sharp rise in global crude oil prices amid heightened tensions in West Asia kept markets on edge, according to agency reports.A sharp decline in domestic equity markets put further pressure on the local unit, while RBI intervention and foreign fund inflows lent support, according to forex traders.
