The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) to establish the NHAI Centre for Economics of Transportation, Mobility and Logistics, aimed at strengthening research-driven policymaking in India’s transport sector.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the newly established centre will serve as a dedicated platform for conducting applied economic research focused on transportation, mobility and logistics. The initiative is expected to generate data-backed insights to support long-term planning, investment strategies and policy decisions in the road infrastructure sector. The ministry said the centre will function as a knowledge hub for the transportation ecosystem by facilitating research dissemination through policy briefs, working papers and flagship reports. These outputs will help policymakers and stakeholders better understand emerging challenges and opportunities in mobility and logistics.
The collaboration between NHAI and NCAER is aimed at promoting evidence-based approaches for improving efficiency, sustainability and economic outcomes in the transport sector. An Advisory Committee has also been constituted to guide the centre’s activities. The committee will include leading economists, transportation experts, public policy specialists and eminent academicians. NHAI’s Member (Finance) and the Director General of NCAER will also be part of the advisory body.
