NEET-UG 2026 cancellation sparks protest by students’ union members

Members of a students’ union staged protests on Tuesday after the National Testing Agency announced the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3, amid allegations linked to the exam process.


According to information, the National Testing Agency (NTA) said the medical entrance examination would be re-conducted on dates to be announced separately, while the Central Bureau of Investigation has been tasked with carrying out a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations.In a statement, the agency said the decision was taken to maintain transparency and preserve public trust in the national examination system.“On the basis of inputs subsequently examined by NTA in coordination with central agencies, and the investigative findings shared by the law enforcement agencies, the National Testing Agency, with the approval of the Government of India, has decided to cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026, and to re-conduct the examination on dates that will be notified separately,” the statement said.


Following the announcement, protesting students demanded accountability and clarity regarding the alleged irregularities. Several student groups expressed concern over the uncertainty faced by lakhs of aspirants preparing for admission to medical colleges across the country.The NEET-UG examination serves as the gateway for undergraduate medical admissions in India and is taken annually by millions of candidates seeking seats in MBBS, BDS and other allied medical courses.The NTA said further details regarding the fresh examination schedule would be announced in due course.
