Naval Commanders’ Conference 2026 begins in New Delhi

The first edition of the Naval Commanders’ Conference 2026 commenced in New Delhi on Wednesday, with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi addressing senior naval leadership. The conference brings together operational and area commanders, along with personnel from Command Headquarters and Naval Headquarters, to deliberate on key operational, strategic and administrative issues. In his inaugural address, Admiral Tripathi commended the Indian Navy’s role in safeguarding the country’s maritime interests, including ensuring energy security amid the ongoing situation in West Asia. He also noted the increased tempo of naval operations and enhanced coordination among the armed forces.
The Naval Chief stressed the need to maintain a high level of combat readiness while adapting to emerging technologies to build a future-ready force. He reiterated the Navy’s commitment to maintaining a strong presence in the Indian Ocean Region and beyond, in view of the evolving geostrategic environment. He also highlighted the need for a cohesive and credible approach through proactive engagement with friendly foreign countries, including participation in bilateral and multilateral exercises.
During the conference, discussions are being held on a range of issues, including jointness among services, capability enhancement both at sea and ashore, maintenance and refits, multi-domain safety practices, training, foreign cooperation, human resource matters, as well as innovation and indigenisation. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan also addressed the gathering. He spoke on the changing geopolitical landscape and called upon the Navy to prepare for the evolving nature of warfare, including the impact of economic and technological factors.
