Nadda unveils roadmap for responsible AI adoption in healthcare

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Saturday chaired a high-level MedTech CEO Roundtable at Vigyan Bhawan and released a knowledge paper outlining a roadmap for the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in healthcare.The knowledge paper, titled ‘AI in MedTech: Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Artificial Intelligence’, was released during India Medical Device 2026 in New Delhi. According to the Health Ministry, the report identifies five key priorities to accelerate the responsible deployment of AI across the healthcare and medical technology sectors.The priorities include developing AI-ready data and evidence, establishing lifecycle-based regulatory frameworks, creating suitable reimbursement mechanisms, scaling up AI-enabled diagnostics and strengthening collaboration among government, industry, healthcare institutions and academia.
The report highlights India’s potential to emerge as a global leader in responsible AI-enabled medical technologies by leveraging its digital public infrastructure, software capabilities, diverse clinical ecosystem and expanding medical device manufacturing base.During the CEO Roundtable, Nadda brought together more than 40 global and domestic MedTech leaders along with senior policymakers to discuss key issues concerning innovation, investment, domestic manufacturing and India’s growing footprint in the global medical technology sector.The discussions focused on strengthening India’s medical device ecosystem and creating an environment conducive to innovation and investment. The meeting also emphasised the importance of expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities while positioning India as a competitive player in the global MedTech market, according to agency reports.
The roundtable was attended by Punya Salila Srivastava, Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare; Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals; Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, Department of Health Research and Director General, ICMR; and Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), among other senior officials.The Health Ministry said the deliberations reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a stronger, innovative and globally competitive medical device ecosystem in India.
