The 10-day Mysuru Dasara festival was inaugurated by renowned music writer Hamsalekha at Chamundi Hills in Mysuru on Sunday.Hamsalekha was joined by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar,Mysuru district in-charge minister H C Mahadevappa, Minister for Kannada and Culture Tangadagi Shivaraj Sangappa, Ministers K Venkatesh, K J George, Mysuru Kodagu MP Pratap Simha, Mayor Shivakumar and Deputy Mayor G Roopa and others.

Hamsalekha while addressing the gathering pointed out that during the reign of the erstwhile King of Mysore dynasty Nalwadi Krisharaja Wadiyar, the king has done a lot for the development of the region.The Dasara festivities are dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, who is the prime deity of Mysuru city and the Mysuru Wodeyar royal family.The event celebrates Goddess Chamundeshwari's victory over Mahishasura, the demon king.
