In a bid to counter lower-than-expected ridership, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has launched a unique initiative allowing citizens to host celebrations and conduct photoshoots inside metro premises across Indore and Bhopal.Branded as “Celebrations on Wheels,” the initiative enables activities such as birthday parties, pre-wedding shoots, and even kitty parties within metro coaches and station premises—marking a departure from conventional restrictions on filming and events in metro systems.
MPMRCL Managing Director S Krishna Chaitanya said the move aligns with the evolving urban lifestyle and cultural vibrancy of the two cities. “This is an effort to bring the Metro closer to the public, allowing people to celebrate their special occasions in a safe and modern environment,” he said, adding that the initiative aims to make metro services an integral part of daily life.Beyond personal celebrations, the metro authority has also opened its premises for professional shoots, including web series, documentaries, and advertisement productions, widening its scope as a commercial and creative venue.
As per reports, the pricing has been structured to attract users, with charges set at Rs5,000 per hour for an undecorated stationary metro coach and RS7,000 per hour for a moving coach. Additional activities and event formats may be permitted under defined guidelines. The initiative comes at a time when metro services in Indore and Bhopal are grappling with subdued commuter numbers, prompting authorities to explore innovative ways to boost engagement and generate non-fare revenue.
