Keralam Govt in talks with states, Discoms to purchase power: CM

Keralam Chief Minister V D Satheesan on Wednesday said the state government was in talks with several states and power companies to purchase electricity, as it stepped up efforts to address the ongoing power crisis.
Satheesan, speaking at a press conference following a Cabinet meeting chaired by him, said the government was trying to buy electricity from wherever possible and expected the crisis to be brought under control within a week.“We approached seven states to purchase power,” Satheesan said, adding that a team from Keralam had travelled to Mumbai for discussions with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) for additional power purchases.

The Chief Minister said the government was also planning to formulate a long-term contract to address the electricity shortage.He said the government would come out with a plan for the period from October 1 until the next monsoon season. A new revised power policy would also be formulated as part of the efforts to address the crisis.
Meanwhile, Satheesan said the Cabinet had decided to launch a new portal named ‘Saral’ to address investment proposals.He also announced that two exclusive National Investigation Agency (NIA) courts would be established in Kochi, with the Central government bearing the cost.
