West Bengal chief minister and TMC chief Mamta Banerjee on Wednesday met with Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi. After meeting, talking to reporters, Ms Banerjee said the meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi was a "very positive one" and we hope something positive will come out of it in the near future. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also present during the meeting. "We discussed the political situation in general. We also discussed the Pegasus spyware snooping controversy and the Covid-19 situation," she said.

Responding to a question on opposition unity in the country, Mamata Banerjee said, "The country will lead the Opposition, we are the followers. Opposition unity will happen naturally, automatically." The meeting is significant amid opposition moves to join forces for a united fight in the 2024 national election.
