Japan braces for Typhoon Dujuan, some impact likely at Asian Games

Japan is bracing for Typhoon Dujuan as the storm moves towards the country’s Pacific coast, bringing warnings of heavy rain, strong winds and possible landslides. The weather system is also expected to have some impact on the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. 
According to agency reports,Typhoon Dujuan, the 25th typhoon of the year, was moving northeast towards eastern Japan on Monday. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned of intense rainfall and strong winds, with the storm expected to pass near the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, from Monday evening to late Monday. The JMA has also warned of the possibility of linear rainbands over parts of the Kanto-Koshin and Tokai regions, which could result in intense localised rainfall and increase the risk of flooding and landslides. The approaching typhoon has already disrupted transportation, with parts of highways closed during Japan’s five-day holiday period. Railway services in parts of Chiba and neighbouring areas have also faced possible suspensions due to the weather conditions. 
At the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games venue, weather conditions had remained largely unaffected as of Monday morning. However, organisers are expecting some impact later in the day and have taken precautionary measures.

The equestrian eventing competition has been postponed from Monday to Tuesday due to the approaching typhoon. Organisers are continuing to monitor the weather situation as competitions across the Games continue.The 20th Asian Games are being held across Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya from September 19 to October 4, with athletes from 45 countries and regions competing in 43 sports. The typhoon is expected to bring heavy rain to eastern and northeastern Japan through Tuesday, while authorities remain alert to the possibility of further disruptions as the storm moves across the region.
