India’s annual defence production touched an all-time high of Rs1.78 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26, reflecting the growing strength of the country’s indigenous defence manufacturing sector, the Ministry of Defence said on Wednesday.According to the Ministry of Defence (MoD), defence production registered a 15.6 per cent increase over the previous fiscal year’s output of Rs1.54 lakh crore. The growth has been even more pronounced over the longer term, with production rising by 110 per cent since FY 2020-21, when the figure stood at Rs84,643 crore. The latest achievement also highlights the rapid expansion of indigenous manufacturing capabilities. Defence production has nearly quadrupled from Rs43,746 crore recorded in FY 2013-14, reflecting sustained investments in domestic defence industrial capacity over the past decade.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the milestone reflects the collective efforts of the Department of Defence Production and all stakeholders involved in strengthening the sector."The remarkable rise in India's defence production in recent years is the result of the collective efforts of the Department of Defence Production and all other stakeholders," Singh said."With sustained policy support, several new initiatives, increased private sector participation, and growing export capabilities, the defence production sector is poised for continued acceleration in the years ahead," he added.
