India is observing the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. The nation is paying homage to all of those who sacrificed their lives and suffered unimaginable pain during the partition in 1947. On this Day, various programmes are being organised across the country, including in the National Capital on Friday. In a fitting tribute to all those who lost their lives due to the partition of the nation and were displaced from their roots, in 2021, the Government had decided to observe 14th August every year as the day to commemorate their sacrifice. It also ensures that future generations remember the pain and suffering endured by the people, as the birth of independent India was marked by the violent partition, which left lasting scars on millions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays a tribute to those who suffered during the Partition, salutes their courage and remembers their invaluable contributions to nation-building. He calls upon citizens to work collectively towards building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ with a resolve to preserve harmony and brotherhood in the nation. “On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, heartfelt salutations to all those compatriots who, emerging from that horrific era, made invaluable contributions to the nation’s progress. With their courage and strength, they demonstrated how resolutions are fulfilled even in adverse circumstances. Let us further strengthen the national spirit of goodwill and unity…,” said PM in a post on X. Chief Minister of Manipur, Khemchand Yumnam paid pay tribute to the countless lives lost and families uprooted during the Partition of 1947. 'Let us remember their suffering and preserve the lessons of history, while strengthening our resolve for peace, unity and harmony,' he said in a post on X.Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami noted that the anguish of partition remains an unhealable chapter of national history.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was solemnly observed at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Tawang, in Arunachal Pradesh, remembering the countless lives lost, families displaced and unimaginable suffering endured during the Partition of India in 1947, They observed two minutes of silence, followed by the screening of a documentary depicting the painful events and human suffering associated with Partition.
