Indian lifters continued their impressive performance at the Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan,on Saturday, with a gold and a silver medal in the men’s junior 60-kilogram category. Manipuri Tomchou Meetei won a total of three medals – gold in the overall category, bronze in the snatch and silver in the clean and jerk. He finished with a combined lift of 266 kilograms.
Gurunaidu Sanapathi bagged two medals – silver in the overall category and silver in the snatch, along with bronze in the clean and jerk. He finished with a total lift of 265 kilograms. The two Indian lifters finished just one kilogram apart in the overall standings, giving India a one-two finish in the category. The gold and silver double adds to India's medal haul at the Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships and underlines the country's strength in the men's junior 60kg category.
On Friday, India's Parishmita Gogoi and Titli Maji delivering medal-winning performances for the country. Competing in the Women's 45 kg weight category, Titli Maji secured the three Silver Medals in all events – snatch, clean & jerk and total, demonstrating exceptional consistency throughout the competition. In the same category, Parishmita Gogoi won the Gold Medal in the Snatch event with a best lift of 65 kg. She finished 4th overall with a total of 141 kg, narrowly missing the overall podium after a determined performance.
