In Maharashtra, heavy rains lashed parts of Mumbai and neighbouring Thane and Palghar districts on Wednesday morning. The Met Department has predicted more intense showers.. Rains have been lashing Mumbai and adjoining districts since Tuesday night. While the two Mumbai IMD observatories Colaba and Santacruz reported 53.2 mm and 84.2 mm of rains respectively, adjoining areas like Dahanu have reported extremely heavy rains of more than 300 mm. Waterlogging has been reported at Hindmata, Dadar,Gandhi Market (Sion), Chembur station, Milan subway, Andheri subway and Dahisar subway. Heavy rainfall in the morning disturbed traffic movement in some low-line areas in the city. South Mumbai recorded extremely heavy rains in few hours on Wednesday.
As per information, Thane city, Dombivli and Kalyan areas, which are part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), received more than 120 mm rainfall during the same period. A report say that at least four people were killed and one went missing. Apart from a landslide on Western Express Highway, incidents of house collapse, tree felling, and electric short-circuits were reported.India Meteorological Department has issued flash flood guidance for various areas.
