BJP MLA Harvinder Kalyan has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini proposed his name for the position during the session held in Chandigarh.Krishan Middha has been elected his deputy. Both were elected unanimously.Kalyan is a three-time MLA from Gharaunda in Karnal district.
Cabinet minister Krishan Lal Panwar proposed Middha’s name and BJP MLA Ghanshayam Dass seconded it. Middha was one of the eight Punjabi-Khatri lawmakers elected to the assembly. His appointment means more representation to Jind. On assuming charge, Kalyan was congratulated by the chief minister and his party MLAs, Congress MLAs, including former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, INLD MLAs Aditya Devi Lal and Arjun Chautala, and several other legislators.
Earlier, chief minister Saini and other newly elected MLAs were administered the oath as members of the House of the 15th state assembly.Pro-tem Speaker and senior Congress leader Raghuvir Singh Kadian administered the oath to the newly elected MLAs.In the 90-member House, the ruling BJP has won 48 seats and enjoys the support of all three Independent legislators. The principal Opposition Congress has 37 seats while the Indian National Lok Dal has two seats.
