Amid galaxy of central leaders, Gujarat BJP legislature party is likely to elect a new leader on Sunday following the resignation of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The BJP central observers, including Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar reached Gandhinagar Sunday morning ahead of the legislative party meeting. Tomar met State BJP President C.R.Patil and other senior leaders and discussed the leadership issue in the state.Senior BJP leader and national general secretary B. L. Santhosh and Union Minister and party’s Gujarat in-charge Bhupendra Yadav were present in the meeting.
Sources said that it is likely that the new leader will be elected from among party MLAs. It is also likely that the party may opt for one or two Deputy Chief Ministers. Union Ministers Parsotam Rupala and Mansukh Mandaviya also in Gandhinagar. Earlier, Vijay Rupani had resigned as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, a year before the state Assembly elections scheduled by December 2022. After handing over his resignation to the Governor at Rajbhavan in Gandhinagar, Rupani said he had stepped down from the post willingly and was ready to accept the new responsibility given by the party.
