Ashwani Kumar, the former chief of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was found dead at his home in Shimla on Wednesday. He was 69.
Kumar was a 1973-batch IPS officer from Himachal Pradesh cadre and also served in the Special Protection Group (SPG) during Rajiv Gandhi's tenure as prime minister.
He was the director of the agency from 2008 to 2010, and handled high-profile cases like the Aarushi Talwar murder case.
He retired after 37 years in service. Kumar also served as the governor of Nagaland and Manipur after his retirement.
Several new reports quoted police in Shimla as saying that Kumar died by suicide and his body was found hanging at his home.
