The government on Thursday appointed Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), succeeding Madhabi Puri Buch, whose term ends on Friday.Pandey, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Odisha cadre who is the current Finance Secretary, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India for 3 years, the government order said.

Before becoming finance secretary in September 2024, Tuhin Pandey held key roles in multiple departments. He took charge as secretary of the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, in January 2025. Pandey held the charge of Secretary in three departments--Department of Investment & Public Asset Management (DIPAM), Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) under the Finance Ministry, and the Department of Personnel and Training.
