The Drug Controler General of India(DCGI0 has extended the shelf life of the Covaxin Covid vaccine from 6 months to 12 months from the date of manufacturing of the dose. A batch of vaccines was sent to Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, for analysis. After a thorough review of sterility and stability studies, DCGI recommended approval for the extension of the shelf life of the vaccines. Maker Bharat Biotech on Wednesday recieve permission from DCGI This approval of shelf life extension is based on the availability of additional stability data, which was submitted to CDSCO," Bharat Biotech said in a tweet.

The shelf life is determined after various tests are conducted to assess how long a vaccine can stay stable and sterile in different environments and temperatures.
