An FIR has been registered against a senior IPS officer Shankar Chaudhary, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Dwarka district,Delhi on allegations of extortion, illegal confinement, and criminal misconduct. Chaudhary, a 2011 batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer is accused of illegally detaining a foreign national and extorting Rs 35 lakh from him.
As per information, on November 29, 2023, a Nigerian woman from the Palam police station area of the South-West district called the Delhi Police Control Room and informed them about the alleged crime committed by IPS officer Shankar Chaudhary, who is currently posted in Mizoram. The woman alleged that the Mizoram Police had picked up her brother, Harrison, from his home. The police also took Rs 35 lakh from the house. She further alleged that the police were now demanding another Rs 20 lakh. The woman had named IPS officer Shankar Choudhary as being involved in this case of illegal detention and extortion. It is said that Shankar Choudhary, who was posted as SP (Narcotics) in the Mizoram Police, during the said period, was in Delhi,without permission even after his leave had ended.
Choudhary, along with some of his close associates in the Delhi Police, illegally raided Harrison's house on November 26, 2023. Harrison was illegally held captive at Mizoram House in Vasant Vihar. He was released after his sister called the police control room (PCR). Sources said that the MHA took the case seriously and ordered a probe On July 22, 2025, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain of the South Range of Delhi Police investigated the matter. Based on a complaint filed by JCP Jain, the Delhi Police Vigilance Unit registered a criminal case against IPS officer Shankar Chaudhary on February 5, 2026. The case, under Sections 166/341/342/409 of the Indian Penal Codeamong other procedural violations. A Departmental action has also been recommended against three Delhi Police personnel who were involved with him in this illegal act. This case is related to two cases registered under the NDPS Act in Mizoram in 2023.
