A jawan of the Chhattisgarh police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) was killed and three other personnel were injured on Monday when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites went off in Bijapur district, officials said.According to information,the blast occurred in the morning inside Indravati National Park when a team of DRG, a specialised unit of the state police, was carrying out an anti-Naxal operation. DRG jawan Dinesh Nag was killed in the explosion while three of his colleagues sustained injuries.
Police officials stated the injured personnel were given preliminary treatment and were being evacuated from the forest for further medical care. Details of the ongoing operation, which began on Sunday, are expected to be shared later.This is the second such incident in the district within a week. On August 14, a DRG sub-inspector was injured when he accidentally came in contact with a pressure IED planted by Maoists in Indravati area under Bhairamgarh police station limits. He suffered an ankle injury but was later reported to be out of danger.
In a separate incident, security forces recently recovered a 10-kg IED planted by Maoists in Tarrem police station area of Bijapur. Meanwhile, in Gariaband district on Sunday, security personnel recovered a cache of explosives following a gunfight after four Maoists—carrying a cumulative reward of Rs19 lakh—surrendered themselves.The recovery included four BGL rounds, a hand grenade, 15 INSAS rounds with a magazine, 15 gelatin rods, 50 detonators, an SLR rifle magazine, and Rs16.50 lakh in cash, officials said.
