Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday announced an indefinite hunger strike after activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted from the Jantar Mantar protest site to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital following a prolonged fast.
In a post on X, Dipke said, "I am starting an indefinite hunger strike beginning right now." Addressing supporters at Jantar Mantar, he urged protesters to continue the movement and not lose momentum following Wangchuk's removal."I am commencing my indefinite hunger strike starting today. I appeal to everyone: do not back down; this movement will only grow larger. They have made a grave mistake. I urge everyone to come to Jantar Mantar; our movement will continue from here, and we will proceed with our march scheduled for July 20," Dipke said.

His announcement came shortly after Delhi Police shifted Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital early on Saturday following medical advice.According to sources, a team of doctors and paramedics from Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital examined Wangchuk at the protest site before he was moved. After assessing his condition, the medical team advised immediate hospitalisation. Officials said another team of two doctors and two paramedics has been assigned to monitor his treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.In an official statement, Safdarjung Hospital said Wangchuk was admitted at 7.40 a.m. and is currently stable but weak due to prolonged fasting and dehydration."Mr Sonam Wangchuk was received and admitted at Safdarjung Hospital for required health care at 7.40 am today. He is weak due to prolonged fasting and dehydration. Although he is currently stable, he requires continuous observation, monitoring and treatment to restore his body parameters," the hospital said.

Meanwhile, heavy police deployment was seen outside Safdarjung Hospital as supporters gathered following Wangchuk's admission.Despite Wangchuk's hospitalisation, Dipke asserted that the protest would continue from Jantar Mantar and said the march planned for July 20 would proceed as scheduled.
